Who we are

We at Gondwana see ourselves as "a company of excellence in the area of mineral resources in Mozambique", developing consulting activities in the mineral resources research sector, with particular emphasis on coal.

We are a Mozambican company, founded in 1999 with operations starting in 2001. In addition to our head office located in Maputo, we also have a branch office and parks in Tete.

Our team of over 60 employees is also comprised of partners and senior consultants, who have each accumulated more than 30 years of experience in providing services in the geological and mining field.

The company is equipped with all the necessary field and office material, which allow us to perform at the highest international standards.

The company has been heavily involved in the northern region of Mozambique since 2005. More particularly in the Tete Province, the largest business center of the coal sector in Mozambique, where we have a strong network of human resources and technicians and a logistical capacity that allows us to meet the requirements of the projects developed in the provinces north of the Save River.

Gondwana is one of the pioneer companies in the development of consulting services in the geological-mining field in Mozambique. This, on one hand, has enabled it to earn a leading position, innovating and taking the initiative to develop new forms of business and market positioning. However, on the other hand, it requires a constant effort to maintain the position of being "one step ahead of the competition", due to the fact that several mining projects and professionals that now exist in the national market, have had the involvement of the Gondwana.

Some examples of pioneering actions and market leadership initiatives:

  • Participation in the preparation of a tender and rendering of services to obtain a mining license for CVRD (now Vale Moçambique) in the Moatize coal basin, which led to the development of the current coal mine in Moatize;
  • Target selection and rendering of services in the Moatize coal basin for the company Aquila Resources, which resulted in, among others, the Zambeze Project, later owned by Rio Tinto Moçambique;
  • Target selection and rendering of services in the Tete gabro-anorthositic complex for Baobab Resources, which resulted in the definition of a global scale magnetite deposit, now in the feasibility study phase;
  • Creation of Plurinvest, a laboratory based in Tete, to serve the mining and water industry. A partnership with Bureau Veritas, of which Gondwana holds a majority stake of 33%;
  • Development of projects and environmental studies through the company Gondwana GPT, Lda., of which Gondwana has a 50% stake.

Another initiative taken on by GONDWANA is their involvement in Água da Serra da Chiúta, Lda., a company that produces bottled water.
